CHURCHES OF DERBYSHIRE by John J. Anderson
ABOUT THIS BOOK
Many of those recalled in these pages were the fathers
and founders of our National Heritage. They were the
rich and the poor for whom the Parish Church was the
focus of community life, a place of prayer, play and
pageant which knew sadness as well as rejoicing, the
beginning as much as the end of life.
This is not in the usual sense, a guide book, but it is
hoped that it will help visitors to the churches dealt with
to feel more involved with the lives of those whose
monuments are of immense importance in the history of
the County, and whose descendants are often in the
congregations which use the churches today.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
When the author first came to Derbyshire as a profes-
sional social worker he intended to stay for only five
years. In mid career he changed horses, took a Degree in
Education and twenty five years after arriving thinks he
might settle here.
He lives in Belper with his French wife and grown up
family. Most of his interests are shared with his wife and
they get a lot of pleasure from rummaging around the
county and further afield.
John Anderson has a penchant for the good red wines
of Burgundy and Cotes du Rhéne, Camembert cheese
and fresh French bread. He hopes (without conviction)
for the completion of the Channel Tunnel and passport
free entry into Europe.
